Some pics of the new furniture we have recently ordered or received.

The bedroom set is of Chinese styling, actually hand-made in China. The 9 pieces fill our over-sized bedroom, and look absolutely fantastic, especially considering the old set we had. We have decided to decorate the master bedroom in a Chinese theme, so future updates to the room will include items we find in Toronto's China Town. This set was purchased from Mobilia in Mississauga.

Not wanting to put the twin bed back in Amy's room, but wanting to have the room capable of sleeping one or two people, we decided to purchase a futon. Unfortunately, most futons are over 6 feet in width, which would not fit comfortably in Amy's room. During a recent shopping expedition on Dundas street, we came upon "Rick's Futons and Waterbeds", which had this beautiful cherry oak futon lounger. The lounger is narrower than a standard futon, but still opens up into a twin sized bed. Absolutely a dream to sit on too!

A quick update on the laundry room: As mentioned earlier, we wanted to put closed shelving in the laundry room as opposed to the open shelves we had before painting. Went to Home Depot and purchased a couple of these cabinets.

And, check out the Powder Room. The mask came from Nicole, and looks superb on the wall, especially with the light illuminating it as it does. Plus, Amy let me purchase a flamingo toilet brush holder, which I think looks fun in that room.

The Living Room was going to be one of the biggest tasks for us to to furnish as our plans were to get rid of everything we currently have. Over the past 3 months, Amy and I have visited almost every furniture store in the GTA trying to find items we'd both like. Having spent every weekend and dozen's of hours scouring the city, I was beginning to believe some furniture, such as the coffee table set and stereo stand, were not going to be had any time soon. We found everything, and it only took 3 months!

The Chesterfield set is from the Horizons line of Palliser, actually made in Canada! The sofa and loveseat are in Savannah leather, a Crimson colour. The chair and ottoman are the Robson line, again in Savannah leather and Crimson colour, and the wood stained in Mahogany. We purchased at Interhome in Mississauga, but many stores sell Palliser.
Note: Furntiure in temporary place until tables arrive.

After almost giving up on ever finding a coffee table set we both like(remember how long it took us to get the Family Room set!!), an ad in the Globe & Mail for a sale at Decorium in Toronto had us doing what we have been doing each and every weekend this year: in the car heading to another furniture store.

Lo and behold, within an hour of being in the store, we had eyed 2 sets that would fit well with our decor. Not perfect mind you, as we found them slightly plain in design, and lacking drawers(we like drawers in the coffee table), regardless, we had decided to check out one more furniture store, and if nothing was to be found there, return on the Sunday to Decorium to purchase one of these sets.

As fate would have it, on our way out of Decorium, we both suddenly eyed an interesting coffee table off to our left. To make a long story short, wouldn't you know, it was perfect! Just what we wanted. The set is the Bali line of furniture by Klaussner, a subsidiary of Sealy, the company that makes the mattresses. We ordered one of each of the items in the pics. Set will take 10 weeks to deliver.

As if finally finding the coffee table set wasn't enough good fortune for one weekend, we also found the stereo stand (Home Theater Unit) that is so desperately needed for the living room.

The home theater unit is the Odeon series made by Lauier Furniture in Quebec, purchased at Canadian Sound in Brampton(pic below)

And did we haggle over this piece! George, our salesman, was offering us all kind's of deals for other home theater units, which one-by-one we decided was not right for one reason or another. Slowly(over 2 hours), we worked our way to this one, which by this time, I think George would have given to us for free just to get rid of us(he sells high end stereo equipment, not furniture, and he was not aware that, as Amy and I had spent every weekend this year haggling over furniture prices, we were an excellent good-cop, bad-cop tag team!)

And to complement the home theater unit, and totally unbudgeted, we also had this delivered:

which looks wonderful(especially when viewing HDTV) in our living room

Pioneer Elite 53" Projection TV, 16:9 format, HDTV ready

And this is how the home theater unit(delivered March 21) and Pioneer Elite 16:9 looks in our living room.

One other item we bought earlier was a new CD stand to replace the 2 old black units we had(which I had bought while living in Saudi Arabia.)

With the arrival of the living room sofas, the family room gets all it's furniture back

Obligatory cute cat picture!(What snow on April 22 does to them)

Many smaller changes were made to the home:
- Master bedroom ceiling light replaced with ceiling fan, and remote control installed in order to run everyting from the wall switch;
- All wall switches were replaced with modern, rectangular switches. A few were replaced with dimmer switches;
- All electric outlets replaced with the modern, rectangular type. The bathrooms had GFCI outlets installed;
- The upstairs hallway, and lower landing to the basement, had their light fixtures replaced with the same type we had in the main hallway;
- Living Room ceiling light fixture replaced;
- New blinds for the living room and master bathroom;
- Guest bedroom and Amy's room had old blinds replaced with the old blinds fom the living room;

and there is so much more to do ...

Old stuff below. However, at the rate Amy and I have been going, I wouldn't be surprised to see this dining room set in our kitchen by year's end!

A Pic of the Dining Room set we saw at Mobilia last weekend that we now want.
Problem is, we have no Dining Room to put a Dining Room set in(our living room took over the dining room area)!
So, Amy and I thought(quickly), it would look great in our kitchen, and would be perfect for the dining room in the new house we'll get in 5 or 10 years.
We managed to justify it's need to be purchased(at least to ourselves and Reshma, our Mobilia Salesperson).
Unfortunately, our budget wouldn't allow it, who said life was a democracy!
(Amy and I are still calculating our heads off trying to figure a way to get it. Big Grin)
The set is solid wood, again hand-made in China, and stunning. What really attracted us to this set was the table base, which instead of having 4 legs, is more of a set of columns.
